JUST DESSERTS
a 4-channel tea party
at New Town Primary School, West Bromwich
7th August 2003
Entry was an action research project into life-long learning, commissioned by The Public in West Bromwich with a team of artists led by artist Mark Storor. I undertook workshops at New Town Primary School and in a residential home, based on the idea of transformation through learning. Through cooking various meals and sweets, food related games’ session and drawing workshops, I was tought how to cook, taking initiative from the participants.
The final installation ‘Just Desserts’ reflects what I had myself leaned about the subject from the poeple I worked with, celebrating transformation. Ingredients had been transformed into delicious food, sounds recorded during this process had been transformed into beautiful music and so participants had to transform themselves by dressing up to be admitted to my teaparty. Old and young gathered to listen to ‘soundarches’ coming from 4 speakers, plus a few hidden audio surprises, enjoy the food and experiment with the interactive hopscotch.
